Madurai Kamaraj University is a state University established by the government of Tamil Nadu in the year 1966. The core of the Madurai Kamaraj University was the Extension centre of the University of Madraslocated then at Madurai. The University, originally known as Madurai University was named after the historical city of Madurai, the ancient capital of the Pandyan rulers and the seat of three famous Tamil academies during ancient times.

The university has 18 Schools comprising of 73 Departments. It has 109 affiliated Colleges (9 Autonomous) including other approved institutions and 7 evening colleges. There are centres which promote research potential of teachers. Extension activities are carried out through Department of Youth Welfare, NSS, SC/ST cell and Adult Education programmes.

The University of Bikaner, now known as the Maharaja Ganga Singh University was established under the University of Bikaner, Act, 2003 which was notified in the Rajasthan Gazette on June, 7, 2003. Over 92444 students were enrolled and examined in various faculties by the University in 2004 for Bachelors, master’s degrees and some diploma courses. Still larger number of students were enrolled and examined in the year 2005.

The University of Bikaner was set up with the main objectives to facilitate higher education and research in the northern part of Rajasthan. The varsity spreads over 1,100 acres of land. Established with the aim of catering to the educational needs of the tertiary, the university aims at achieving through teaching, research and extension, a batter understanding of the problems of the region in which it is located. The University exhibits several ecological constants i.e. the great Thar Desert in which it is located those cannot be found anywhere in India and across the world.

A land of 1127.07 Bighas in the village Shrah Nathania situated about 2 kilometers from the outskirt of the city of Bikaner has been allotted to the University by the state government. The construction of thenew building of university is soon to start.

At present the University of Bikaner has 92 colleges affiliated to it falling in Bikaner, Churu, Hanumnagarh and Sriganganagar districts of Rajasthan. Out of these 14 are Govt. Colleges and the rest are Private ones.

From the session 2004-2005 the University has started its own Law Department and has admitted students to the first year of LL.B.

The University is spread over an area of 1,100 acres.The University is developing its own infrastructure inthe village Shrah Nathania which is situated 10 km away from Bikaner Railway Station towards West side of the city on N.H. 15, Jaisalmer Road.

Karnatak University in Dharwad (KUD) was established by Bombay legislature of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency through the Karnatak University Act 1949. It became a statutory University in 1950. The University has been recognized by UGC as an university with the Potential for Excellence. It has been accredited with five star status by National Accreditation Council (NAAC).

In areas of Genetics, Microbiology, Reproductive Health and Management, Karnataka University has an excellent track record of academic excellence. It has also established collaborations in India, and foreign countries such as USA, Germany, France, UK, and the like.

The post graduate center established at Belgaum offers Master of Education (M Ed), a course of one academic year with two semesters for full time students. M Sc course is being offered, with admission as per the norms of Karnataka University, at post graduate centre at Karwar offers. The Bijapur post graduate center offers MA in History and Archaeology and PG Diploma courses in Tourism, Art-History, Computer Application, Food Processing and Quality Control.

KKHSOU, established under the provision of the KKHSOU, Act’ 2005 enacted by the Govt. of Assam & published in the Assam Gazette (extraordinary) dt 29/9/05 has been recognized by the Distance Education Council, New Delhi vide letter no. DEC/Misc/07/5957 dated 03/10/07. The University Grants Commission vide its letter No. F.9-13/2008(CPP-I) dated 18th March, 2009 also has empowered the University to award degrees under Section 22 of UGC Act, 1956. It is the fourteenth of its kind along with IGNOU and the only state Open University in the whole of NE India. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission and Distance Education Council, Govt. of India. The headquarters of the University is located at Housefed Complex, Last Gate, Dispur, Guwahati. The university started functioning with the joining of Prof. Srinath Baruah, former Professor, Deptt. of Economics, Gauhati University, as the Vice-Chancellor.

The main aim of the university to develop and provide easily accessible modes of quality higher education and training with the use of latest educational inputs and technology. Because of the inherent flexibility in terms of pace and place of learning, methods of evaluation etc., The university holds the promise of providing equality of opportunities for higher education and bringing into its fold the deprived and denied sections along with the fresh learners.

Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University is a state university located in Guwahati, Assam. It was established by the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2005. It was recognized by the Distance Education Council in 2007 and by the University Grants Commission in 2009.

Karnataka State Women's University (KSWU), Bijapur was established in 2003. The University is dedicated to the education of women. Infact, it is the first women's university in the state of Karnataka. The primary objective of the University has been to enhance the status of women by providing them higher education and training, through academic achievement, research, creativity, innovation, interaction, collaboration, personality development and leadership qualities.

All the women's colleges in the Northern districts of Karnaatka have been affiliated by the Karnataka Statae Women's University. The University is recognized but not funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University (JRNVU) was founded by Late Pt. Janardan Rai in 1937. In 1987, the Government of India granted it the status of Deemed-to-be-University. It was renamed as Rajasthan Vidyapeeth by Founder Pandit Janardan Rai Nagar.Taking inspiration from previous efforts made by their predecessors to revolutionize the education in the country, Pandit Janardan Rai Nagar established ‘Rajasthan Vidyapeeth’ in 1937 to uplift the down-trodden common man in the feudal state of Mewar.

The University started as a Night Study Centre for the Elementary, Secondary and Advanced Courses in Hindi. Now, the Rajasthan Vidyapeeth has blossomed as a bunch ofmore than 50 institutions situated in several districts of Rajasthan.

In the year 1987 the University has been granted the status of Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Ministry, Government of India and University Grants Commission (UGC). Since then University has no looking back and moving forward by offering different courses including professional courses for the upliftment of the society.

The University has exercised several academic exchange programmes of its students and faculty members with the Slippery Rock University of America. The University has been accredited B++ by NAAC and approved by Distance Education Council, New Delhi.

The University offers Certificate/ Diploma/ Bachelors and Masters courses. Degree and Post Degree courses are semester based. The university has three-tier system of evaluation and offers backlog facility so that every aspirant could complete his/her desire of higher education. Open University System (OUS) is available for the students of BA and B Com programs. Under OUS, the students who want admission in these programs but do not have the formal educational qualification, can pass a preparatory course to get admission for the above degrees.

Students who do not complete the minimum qualifications in respect to Mathematics or Biology in 10+2 level or Graduation level can avail of Bridge Course System. Bridge Courses are offered in the form of Certificate Programs in Maths (CPM) for 6 months and Certificate Program in Biology (CPB) for 6 months.

Garhwal University, established in the year 1973 renamed as Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in the year 1989. The university received its new name after Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, a noted statesman from the region who headed the “Chipko Movement” to save the forest and subsequently established as Central University under the provision of the Central Universities Ordinance, 2009, No.3 of 2009 published in the gazette of India, extraordinary Part-II, Sec-I, New Delhi, 15 January 2009.
