The University
of Bikaner, now known as the Maharaja Ganga
Singh University was established under the University of Bikaner,
Act, 2003 which was notified in the Rajasthan Gazette on June, 7, 2003. Over
92444 students were enrolled and examined in various faculties by the
University in 2004 for Bachelors, master’s degrees and some diploma
courses. Still larger number of students were
enrolled and examined in the year 2005.
The University of Bikaner was set up with the main objectives to facilitate higher education and research in the northern part of Rajasthan. The varsity spreads over 1,100 acres of land. Established with the aim of catering to the educational needs of the tertiary, the university aims at achieving through teaching, research and extension, a batter understanding of the problems of the region in which it is located. The University exhibits several ecological constants i.e. the great Thar Desert in which it is located those cannot be found anywhere in India and across the world.
A land of 1127.07 Bighas in the village Shrah Nathania situated about 2 kilometers from the outskirt of the city of Bikaner has been allotted to the University by the state government. The construction of thenew building of university is soon to start.
At present the University of Bikaner has 92 colleges affiliated to it falling in Bikaner, Churu, Hanumnagarh and Sriganganagar districts of Rajasthan. Out of these 14 are Govt. Colleges and the rest are Private ones.
From the session 2004-2005 the University has started its own Law Department and has admitted students to the first year of LL.B.
Campus:
The University is spread over an area of 1,100 acres.The University is developing its own infrastructure inthe village Shrah Nathania which is situated 10 km away from Bikaner Railway Station towards West side of the city on N.H. 15, Jaisalmer Road.
